The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Dr Mamadou Tangara, on Wednesday 28 November 2018, officially opened a two-day capacity building workshop on international conference management. The training is meant to boost the organisational skills of protocol officers and security, ahead of the upcoming OIC summit in November next year. The forum is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. Delivering his opening remarks at Kairaba Beach Hotel, Dr Tangara emphasised the importance of protocol, saying no event can be successfully hosted without efficient protocol. “I would encourage you to take advantage of this very important training. You have a very important role to play in the events that are going to happen here,” the minister told the participants. Declaring the interactive forum open, Al Busrya Basnur, secretary of Directorate General for Information and Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, spoke about the vast experience of Indonesia in hosting international events and how it can play a key role in The Gambia’s bid to successfully host the OIC Summit. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to share with you our experiences and best practices through this workshop in organising international conference,” Al Busrya said. He added that although two days might not be enough to deal with such a diverse area, he believed the participants would learn a lot from the very experienced trainers in order to set the ground for upcoming international events. Participants are drawn from the protocol and security units of various departments. The team from Indonesia conducting the training includes Mr Akio Alfiano Tamala, Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Lieutenant Colonel Hengky Sweeto, official of the Office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia and Sezargerry Sumardi, official of the Directorate of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.   Issued by the Communication Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad]]>
