Lamin NK Dibba, the Minister of Land and Regional Government has said that when it comes to local governance matters his ministry is doing more correction than work.
“We are looking at how local authorities who were appointed and fired to correct that. Previously everybody was called APRC Alkali, APRC Chief and APRC Governor and since these positions are very key in our decentralization, we must do some correction on the way they carry out their responsibility to get a head-way,” he said.

Dibba made these remarks while addressing the National Assembly Select Committee Members on Regional Government and Lands, Ombudsman and IEC, who are currently on oversight tour of institutions under their preview.

Minister Dibba further told the committee that his ministry is doing lots of revamping, especially with regard to Village Development Committees which he said is one of the most important institutions in local governance.
“We want to ensure that the VDCs are the entry points of development at community level, with a view to ensuring that they participate in the management and sustainability of their projects,” he said.
He challenged the NAMs to forget their political affiliations and work for the interest of the country and their constituencies.
