The family of Lamin Darboe, a UDP supporter who was arrested for releasing a Whatsapp audio calling for Rwanda-type genocide in The Gambia has apologised and appealed to President Barrow to pardon him.

Lamin Darboe, a former fire officer and native of Jarra Bureng circulated audio, inciting Gambians to go out and burn the country to ashes. He has since been arrested and charged with terrorism among other serious charges.

However, Mr Darboe’s wife, brother, and eldest son have called on the president to offer him a presidential pardon because when he made those comments he was not with all his senses.

“We are experiencing the attitudinal problems at home with him and  I know there is something wrong with him but we know how to handle him. We have spoken to him and he regretted all that happened and asked us to appeal to the president on his behalf,” Mr Darboe’s second wife Mam Saidy told The Standard yesterday. Madame Saidy said the family is experiencing serious challenges as Mr Darboe was the breadwinner of the family.

Kawsu Conteh, a brother to Mr Darboe said his brother’s actions have caused the family embarrassment and appealed to the president for mercy
