The UK-based Gambia Health Matters (GHM) on Thursday donated over 120 nurses lockers to the national mental care home, the Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital.

The items were handed over to the institution by Yankuba Jabbi a member of the group. He told a gathering of Tanka Tanka staff led the Matron Omar Bojang that GHM is now a well-known partner of The Gambia’s healthcare, system regularly supplying essential materials to various healthcare institutions across the country notably, the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital and Tanka Tanka. ”In 2019 we brought loads of materials for the patients and when our attention was drawn to a request for nurses lockers, we worked to get some and today we are happy to present you some 120 lockers which we think will be very useful to the nurses at this institution,” Jabbi said.

Receiving the items, the doctor-in-charge at Tanka Tanka, Omar Bojang, thanked GHM for the donation. He explained that the needs of the institution are many and government does not have adequate resources to meet all the needs of the country.

“It is therefore commendable that groups such as GHM have taken the initiative of regularly helping the institution and the community’s health sector in general,” he said.

The Gambia Health Matters is a registered charity in the UK with its membership drawn from members of the Gambian community in Britain most of who are nurses, doctors, and other professionals. The aim of the charity is to complement The Gambia government’s efforts to deliver better healthcare services to citizens. GHM does this by regularly sending essential healthcare materials to primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare service providers in The Gambia.
