The Paramount Chief, Demba Sanyang has said he agreed that there is a need for the establishment of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

Ebrima Mballow, the Governor of West Coast Region in his welcoming remarks described the commission as timely and very important in the current dispensation. Governor Mballow lamented that many families and individuals have suffered physically and psychologically at the hands of the former government and a way must be found to help them live that horrific past.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Aboubacarr Tambadou applauded the people of Bwiam and Brikama for the tumultuous welcome and urged them to unite for the development of the country.
Justice Tambadou reminded the communities of Foni that the government of President Adama Barrow recognised the people of Foni as true citizens of the country.

He assured them that the commission, once set up, will be an independent and upright body in their conducts.
“The commission will be independent and will not be based on politics and will be headed by Gambians. No one is witch-hunting anyone; rather we are trying to get to the truth and that is the main objective of the commission,” Justice Minister Tambadou concluded.
The tour continues in the Greater Banjul Area.
