The Federation of the Senegalese Democratic Party supporters in The Gambia and the Karimist movement have warned President Macky Sall to break away from all “unpopular and political decisions of his courts and divest himself from any action to prevent the candidacy of Karim Wade and Khalifa Sall in the interest of peaceful elections in Senegal.”
Senegal will elect a president in February.

Karim, the son of former president Abdoulie Wade, served a prison sentence for corruption accused of stealing billions of CFA during his father’s time as president. He was granted a presidential pardon in 2016 and has since been living in Qatar.

The PDS has been the biggest opposition party in Senegal since its founder and Ex- president Wade’s defeat in the 2012 election that witnessed rise of Macky Sall to power in 2012.
Over the weekend the party executive in The Gambia hosted a meeting to denounce what it calls ‘the latest crimes of President Macky Sall”, alleging that Sall is obsessed with his desire to destroy any potential candidate against his rule.to get rid of Karim Wade and his hopes for contesting the presidency.

Babacar Ndiaye, the spokesperson, said Federation of the Senegalese Democratic Party of Gambia and the Karimist movement believe that the judicial system in Senegal is manipulated by the government and that its consequent actions pose a dangerous precedent to the existing stability and prosperity of the country.
”We are warning President Macky Sall that if Karim Wade meets all the conditions to contest and is barred from running, there will be no other candidates for these elections, including himself, and we will not undertake any effort to face him.

“We will consider Sall as the main responsible for all overflow, all stress and all instability that will result from this situation which he created by his incredible obsession to obtain a second mandate,” a statement released by the party stated.
The Federation also reaffirmed their attachment and support to the National Secretary General and to the Party nominee.
