GAMBIA SENDS TEAM TO C/WEALTH GAMESAfter 8 years absence

After eight years of absence, The Gambia will this year participate in the Commonwealth Games slated for April in Gold Coast, Australia. The last time the Gambia took part was in 2010 in India. The 2014 edition which took place in Glasgow, Scotland had met Gambia already withdrawn from the body.

With the country now back, the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) which coordinates Gambia’s participation in the Commonwealth Games has selected 6 athletes, 4 male and 2 female, all of them sprinters to attend the games. They are Adama Jammeh, Gina Bass, Ebrima Camara, Ola Bouarih (a junior athlete), Abdoulie Assin and Assan Faye. They will be coached at the games by Mariama Sallah, Modou Njie and Joko Colley.

Equally the Commonwealth Games Association has invited GNOC president and secretary general to its congress whereas a government delegation too will be headed by sports minister Henry Gomez accompanied by DPS Aboulie Kah at the invitation of the organisers. The Gambia delegation leaves town by March 31 or thereabout.
The chef de mission of the team is Mohammed Janneh.
