Gambia’s world acclaimed anti-tobacco Act to be launched

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with Centre for Tobacco Control in Africa (CTCA), WHO and the Multi-Sectoral working group on tobacco control will Tuesday 18th July launch the Tobacco Control Act at the Arch 22 in Banjul following the government enactment of a comprehensive Tobacco Control Act, 2016, a statement from the Ministry of Health revealed.

The act will be officially launched jointly with the World No Tobacco Day awards won by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs and the National Assembly respectively, the statement added.
The launching of the Tobacco Control Act according to the statement available to The Standard will mark the beginning of the creation on the provisions of the Act as well as highlight the roles and responsibilities of all relevant actors and stakeholders in the successful implementation of the Act.

 

The launching will attract government ministries, institutions, NGOs, UN Agencies, Parastatals, Private sectors, educational institutions and the general public to grace the breaking event which is going to be the first of its kind in the African Region.
The ministry of health and social welfare reaffirms its commitment to making The Gambia a smoke free environment.
