Sheikh Tijan Hydara of Gambia Alliance for National Unity, GANU, whose party is still reeling from a sudden divorce from the renegade APRC faction loyal to former president Yahya Jammeh, has said there was no formal alliance between the two since they have not signed anything.

“I will not call it marriage because we have not signed it and I am the one who opted out of it,” Mr Hydara said.

Asked about his relatively small entourage, Mr Hydara said many of his supporters could not get vehicles to travel to IEC because of the current fuel shortage.

Hydara, who caused a curious moment after producing US Dollar notes to pay his D10,000 mandatory cash deposit, said the plan was to stop and exchange the money into dalasis on the way but had forgotten until he arrived at the Election House. ”We have had a lot of things to do in the last few days and in the heat of things, we forgot to exchange the dollar in to dalasis. There was no other reason but that only,” he said.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Tamsir Jasseh too filed his papers with President Barrow, Papa Faal, Essa Faal and Matar Nyang expected today.
