The Gambia Democratic Congress national youth president, Modou Cham Jr has said all political players and interested Gambians must be very vigilant to ensure that non-Gambians don’t get voter’s cards.
Mr Cham said this in a write-up shared with The Standard.
According to him, Gambian politics is for the Gambians and interference by foreigners will directly undermine our decision as citizens.
“As Gambians wait to queue on the 14th January, for the registration on new voter’s card, I am imploring on all concern citizens and institutions to be watchdogs to this process to maka sure that all non-Gambians are denied access to decide for The Gambia in the race to the 2021 State House,” he stated.
Mr Cham accused the National People’s Party of transporting people from Casamance to its recent meetings in Foni.
President Barrow on Monday held meetings in Sintet and Bambara, as the second part of his tour of the nation commences.
The Foni area remains a stronghold for the former ruling APRC as all the five parliamentary seats were won by the party. According to MC Cham Jr, the NPP brought people from Casamance to fill up their meeting venues because the people of Foni had refused to come out.
“The importation of people from Kambusema, Kambasa, Giyokel and Pateh in Casamance who claim to be GDC supporters to fill up the meeting venue for the NPP was totally uncalled for,” he alleged.
However, a grassroots NPP supporter who spoke to The Standard from Foni and preferred not to be named, said Mr Cham’s claims cannot be true because even the people of Casamance have no interest in Gambian problems.
“Before may be, but now Casamance people are not interested in Gambian matters. All the people who came are Gambians from different villages. The NPP is growing in Foni and those who came to cross carpet are GDC members,”our NPP source stated.
