Home Baze begins campaign to revive Gambian culture

Home Baze, a Gambian-base non-profitable cultural organisation of young people have begun campaigning to revive culture in the country.
The organisation, which brought together scores of dedicated Gambian youths, is geared towards promoting and patronizing Gambian arts and culture to the world.

Speaking at the official launching of the organization’s logo, the President of Home Baze Lamin Kinteh, said the organisation will henceforth be hosting cultural events in the country annually with the aim of restoring the country’s fading traditions.
“We will do these in the form of seminars, workshops and concerts to celebrate and promote arts and culture,” he said.

He said the cultural workshop that brought together young people within the country is just the beginning of many activities to follow in the future.
He said during the day-long workshop, the participants have discussed intensively on the possibilities of coming up with activities and projects which will play pivotal roles in the promotion and development of culture in The Gambia.

“The workshop also serves as an avenue for us to discuss with the stakeholders in the arts and culture industry on how best we can implement cultural rights and build capacities to better enhance the industry.”
He said culture contributes significantly in the country’s tourism industry and as well creates a lot of job opportunities.

Meanwhile, the guest speaker Hassoum Ceesay of NCAC, encouraged young people to engage in the battle to revive Gambian culture.

He said because many Gambians and mostly the young generation have neglected researching about the country’s rich culture, many social activities in the economic, cultural and others are failing.
Speaking further Mr Ceesay said people should remember that culture is not only about beating drums and dancing.

The former chairman of the board of directors at NCAC Tijan Camara said culture is the definition of identity and the way people live.
