Ten households that were hard-hit by early last September heavy rains in Kombo South coastal village of Kartong have received relief support from Al-Atharee Association for Islamic Dawa and Propagation.
The association provided ten trips of sand and five hundred bags of cement to help the ten affected families to reconstruct their dilapidated buildings.
Last week, West Coast Region disaster management office and Saama Kairo federation established and trained district disaster committees in Kombo East and Central.
The region, which Kartong is part of has a long history of disaster calamities which are mainly caused by what many disaster workers called “man made” disasters.
The region’s disaster coordinator Binta Sey-Jadama said the relief support would help to recuperate from the disaster shock.
Wandifa Drammeh, a regional community development officer and member of the regional disaster management committee, said the support will be a great relief to the affected families.
He said disaster is a cross-cutting issue which makes it difficult to be addressed by a single institution.
Alkalo of Kartong Demba Jabang thanked the donors for coming to his community.
