The perennial question asked by The Point Newspaper on the front page for the past fifteen years has finally been answered unequivocally, and the truth is ugly.
It has now been confirmed that Deyda Hydara was actually gunned down under the orders of former president Yahya Jammeh in 2004.
A witness at the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) on Monday laid bare facts that show clearly that the former president was the very one who issued the order to kill the renowned journalist.
The witness claimed that he and other men in his unit were led Tumbul Tamba who had a direct line of communication with the former president who gave them orders to kill certain individuals including Deyda.
It is now clear as to who bears the ultimate responsibility for the killing of this patriotic citizen whose only crime was fulfilling his responsibility as a journalist.
The question now is, what is going to be done to ensure that the one who ordered the killing of an innocent man is brought to book? Will efforts be made to extradite him from Equatorial Guinea to come and face charges and have a chance to clear his name?
This is the question on the lips of many Gambians now!
