By Amadou M Jadama Lamin Waa Juwara, a veteran politician has called on president Adama Barrow and his coalition government to arrest former president Yahya Jammeh and put him on trial where possible at home or abroad to deter others from committing heinous crimes against Gambian people. Lamin Waa Juwara was speaking on Friday at his residence in Brikama in an exclusive interview with The Standard. He continued: ”I have no doubt that the human rights abuses that the former president Yahya Jammeh and his people have committed against the Gambian people will never go unpunished. But everything has a stage, at this stage what we need is to go deep into everything and find out the crime he has committed. We already know some of the crimes but we may not know all which may surface during investigations”. The former minister further stressed that ”Jammeh and his people who committed cruel acts cannot get away like that. ”I must declare my pleasure because the Gambia is on the right footing. We have had a terrible time during the last two decades,” he lamented. He commended the planned truth and reconciliation commission by the new government saying it will help a lot in bringing some things to light.]]>
