Saama-Kairo Federation, a community based organization in Kombo Central recently presented seedlings worth over D39, 000 to women gardeners in Kombo Central and East districts.
The seedlings were handed-over to women during a colorful ceremony held at the Kuloro Community Association.
Presiding over the presentation, the West Coast Regional Agricultural Director, Kaddy Bojang said the role of Agriculture in the country is to promote the welfare of the farmers throughout the length and breadth of the Gambia.
She said empowering women farmers is indeed paramount as they are very supportive to the welfare of their respective families.
“These seedlings are in a very good quality and I am urging you the beneficiaries to make the best use of them,” she said.
She said Saama-Kairo federation has manifested that they put the welfare of the communities in the heart of their development agendas, urging the beneficiaries to continue cementing the already existing relationship for many more projects to surface in the communities.
Kebba Saidykhan, the Admin and HR director at the Federation deputizing for the Federation Manager, described the donation as worthy and vital.
He said the seedlings would play a great role in complementing the efforts of the beneficiaries whose aims are to yield a productive harvest at the end of their farming activities.
“We have been supporting the various communities with different farming inputs in order to facilitate a smooth working environment to the women farmers under the Federation,” he said.

Amie Sonko, a beneficiary from Tubakuta village, on behalf of her colleague beneficiaries lauded the Saama-Kairo Federation for their gesture promising that the donated items would be put into good use.
The beneficiary communities are Sohm CA, Tumani Tenda CA, Tubakuta CA and Kabekel CA in the Kombo Central District
