After his client’s trial failed to proceed at the Banjul Magistrates Court on Monday, Lamin Mboge, lawyer for Lang Conteh, told The Standard newspaper: “I have already filed a bail application before the high court. I’m just waiting for a date’
Lang Conteh who was in state custody since January this year was denied bail by Magistrate Hillary Abeke and was remanded at the Mile 2 Central Prison after he denied a single count of theft on July 7. He is accused of stealing D1,538, 804.95 from Kanilai Family Farm. He pleaded not guilty.
When the trial resumed on Monday, Magistrate Abeke told the parties that the time schedule had passed and he could not hear the case. Despite the plea by the defence counsel to be allowed to renew his bail application for Mr Conteh to be released on bail, the magistrate said he had other matters to preside over. “Rules are rules,” he said before adjourning the case to August 4.
