The public relations officer of the Gambia Ports Authority has confirmed to The Standard that the man who last week fell off the Kunta Kinteh ferry and drowned was mentally ill.
The man, later identified as Musa Jeng, suddenly fell off the moving ferry and plunged into water leaving many passengers thinking it was a suicide.

However according to GPA spokesman, Momodou Lamin Sanyang, the drowned man Musa Jeng, 37, was battling with mental illness.
“The passenger was from Latrikunda German. He boarded Kunta Kinteh Ferry at 7pm heading to Barra, while on the ferry he lost his balance and fell over.
“The body was seen on Saturday night and was buried on Sunday 2pm at his family residence in Latrikunda German.

“A cousin of the late Musa Jeng confirmed to me that he had been battling with this illness for the past years,” PRO Sanyang said.
