A man has appeared at the Banjul High Court accused of raping an eight-year-old girl in her mother’s bed after he found her alone in the house watching TV.
The accused Hamidou Fasiru is charged with a count of rape. He is accused of forcefully having sex with the victim at Manjai Kunda last May.
However, when the charge was read to him in court before Justice Bakre, he pleaded not guilty saying he did not accept the allegation.
Following his denial, the victim’s mother (name withheld) was called by the prosecutor, Saikou Lamin Jobarteh to testify.
She said she was away when the incident took place at her house and was alerted by her neighbours that her daughter was assaulted.
She said when she came home, her daughter was bleeding. She said she observed that blood was oozing from the little girl’s private part which continued for several days.
She said her daughter told her that the accused sexually assaulted her and that when she took the young girl to the hospital for medical examination, a doctor confirmed she was raped and issued a medical report to that effect.
