The Appeals court has ruled that the mayor of Banjul Rohey Lowe has no powers to give attestation for voter’s card in Banjul, maintaining Justice Basirou Mahoney’s ruling on the same matter in July at the High court The mayor and the IEC and the attorney general were sued by some human some CSOs.
However according to one of the lawyers representing the CSOs, the appeal court decision is purely academic, as it has no effect on the current register of voters. “It is only going to guide the IEC in the next voter registration,” the lawyer said.
