In a bid to address the country’s current energy crisis, the National Water and Electricity Company has announced it will replace at least 5,000 street lights with “efficient” LED bulbs.
“In that case, we will be able to save energy that can be distributed to other customers,” Nawec MD Baba Fatajo told journalists at a recent press briefing.
He however did not say when the replacements will start.
Mr Fatajo again used the occasion to emphasise that the country’s electricity problem “cannot be fixed overnight,” as Nawec has “very old machines suffering from decades of neglect.”
In the meantime, Fatojo said everyone must try and save energy as progress is being made to “stabilise and modernise the system.”
