By Amadou M Jadama New Hope Academy Gambia in collaboration with Service For Peace Sukuta Chapter, Sunday donated 35 bags of 25Kg rice worth over D20,000 as gift to the poor and needy people in Sukuta in the Kombo North District in West Coast Region. The presentation of the donation was held at Sukuta Health Centre. Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Cherno B Cham, National Coordinator of Service For Peace Sukuta, said the ambition of the New Hope Academy Gambia is to build schools from Nursery to the senior secondary schools. He explained that the Association decided to buy bags of rice to distribute to the women who lost their husbands and poor people who could not afford to buy rice. “That is why we decided to give out 35 bags of rice to the beneficiaries here today. The needy ones are the people that in unfortunate situation and we believe to feed themselves is a problem,” he said. For his part, Sheriffo Makalo deputizing the Alkalo of Sukuta, expressed delight at the gesture which he said will go a long way in improving the lives of the beneficiaries. Mr Makalo further posited that if they have many Associations in Sukuta similar to New Hope Academy Gambia and Service For Peace, the hardship will be eradicated in the village He applauded the donors for giving out these items to the needy. “You may take it to be small or little but this is definitely big in my eyes and the eyes of the beneficiaries.” Lamin Ceesay, a member, said: “This Association has been existing for more than 13 years now. We started with cleansing exercise in the streets and Sukuta Health Centre.” Mariama Darboe, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the donors for the unprecedented gesture accorded to them and urged others to emulate the Association.]]>
