New Yundum on Thursday inaugurated a new traffic police post at a ceremony held at the village.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ousman Bojang, the alkalo of New Yundum, expressed delight in having such a traffic police post in his community, citing the importance of the post in the daily regulation of traffic.
“The construction of this post came at a time the community need it most because it is the busiest area of this community since there are three important functional places used by people daily which is the Health Centre, Market and the Lower and Upper Basic School. There are hundreds of people daily; men and women, young and old that cross the road to visit three important areas because we all know the importance of health, education and market in our daily lives,” he said.
Alkalo Bojang advised citizens and residents of New Yundum to take ownership of the traffic police post and for every citizen to be a police officer because the security of the nation is key to everyone since the police can’t do it alone.
Hon Saikouba Jarju, National Assembly Member for Busumbala Constituency, said when the Gambia had changes in 2016, the door was open for every genuine Gambian to see what you can contribute in developing the country.
“Don’t ask for what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country. This has been sincerely answered by the youths of New Yundum by coming together to build this structure,” he said.
Hon. Jarju called on the public to see the police as service providers.
Also speaking, on behalf of IGP, Famara Jallow urged citizens to be law-abiding in order to pave way for a better country.
“This traffic police post is quite important and it is going to make sure security is rendered to the community of New Yundum and its surroundings.”
