‘Nobody can split the UDP’

By Amadou Jadama Muhammed Papa Touray, the newly elected regional campaign manager of the United Democratic Party in the Upper River Region, has said that nobody can split his party, no matter how hard he or she tries because the party is indestructible. Speaking after his election at the recent regional congress, Touray said contrary to widely held presumption, “there is no split in the UDP, and those who think they can split the party will not succeed because the party has its feet firmly on the ground and it’s unbreakable”. Touray said the UDP is a victim of its own success, and that “as a growing movement which is set to guide and lead the political life of The Gambia, it is normal for there to be a big noise as people tussle for positions.” But he reiterated, “UDP will be like the ANC party in South Africa.
