As part of its activities of engagement to ensure a peaceful election process, the Inter-Party Committee (IPC) has announced that an unprecedented meeting of all political leaders in The Gambia will take place on June 19th in the Lower River Region.
Disclosing this to a gathering of partners, colleagues and the media, Musa Amul Nyassi the co-chairman of the IPC said this meeting would be crucial in the efforts to sensitise the people about the need to have a peaceful political process in December.
“The IPC is the body that comprises all political parties with a mandate to engage each other to ensure a conflict-free election, as well as seek a consensus among themselves in all matters no matter how contentious,” he said.
Nyassi said the presence of all the political leaders under one roof would send strong signal to the people that after all, politics is not a war or about enmity. “We are convinced that all the political party leaders would attend as they have a common interest to ensure a peaceful election,” Nyassi, the APRC National Assembly Member of Foni Kansala said.
