The PDOIS presidential candidate, Halifa Sallah has said the system his campaign advocates is designed to end poverty in the country.
Speaking at a short meeting in Bundung yesterday as PDOIS officially starts campaigning for the December election, Sallah urged the people to first assess the candidates running and their programmes to know who to entrust and safeguard the national budget.
“We have a system that has not delivered to the national development of the country for 56 years as people continue to live in poverty. That is why we are advocating for system change, calling for equal opportunities and equal rights of good living standards. Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment,” he told the gathering.
He outlined that one of the main reasons why youngsters are leaving the country is because of poverty and the living standards in the country.
He said with a PDOIS leadership, they will ensure that the productive base of the economy is built such that the country will not import what it could produce, instead the government will enhance the capacity of the people so that The Gambia will produce those products. “But it depends on your vote. So the key is in your hands and who you vote for is the one you will entrust to manage the budget of this country in the next five years,” Sallah told his audience.
