Police spokesman Spt Lamin Njie has confirmed that Mariama Balajo, who was recently found in Ziguinchor along with her son having been missing for one month, is now back in The Gambia.
The woman disappeared with her three-year-old son in late January shortly before her husband landed from Europe on holiday.
Police mounted a massive search alongside her family who offered a D50,000 reward for information about their whereabouts.
Last week, a family member confirmed that Mariama and her daughter were found in Ziguinchor Senegal.
However according to police PRO Njie, the woman is being attended by some Psycho-social support personnel. “She is not under any detention as being falsely suggested in some quarters. She will rejoin her family in good time,” he said. Asked if the police know anything about the circumstances surround her disappearance and discovery, Spt Njie said they have not started questioning the woman.
