The police have launched an investigation into a fatal accident that claimed the lives of five children and injured several others in Jagil village in Foni.
Police said Monday that they have arrested the driver who drove into a crowd of Christmas revelers last Sunday as they followed a carnival, as part of activities marking Christmas.
“Five people have now been confirmed dead, while 13 others remain with various degrees of injury,” police spokesperson ASP Lamin Njie told The Standard.
“The dead and the injured include young boys and girls, some of them 20 years old, others are even younger,” the ASP added.
He warned against overspeeding, saying there was no sense in it, and reserved a special message for those violators of traffic rules and regulations.
“Road accidents have become a norm, but those found wanting will face the full force of the law,” ASP Njie stated.
