The assistant PRO of the Gambia Police Force ASP Foday Conta yesterday confirmed to The Standard that police have now completed investigations into the allegations of tax fraud against the Gambia Football Federation, GFF.
Conta further revealed that the police findings have been sent to the National Assembly, which requested it, and also to the Attorney General, which advises on any legal matters. “We cannot as a matter of law, ethics and policy release or discuss the outcome with journalists or any other person,” ASP Conta stressed.
The police started investigating the tax fraud requested by the National Assembly Select Committee on sports after the National Sports Council alleged that the GFF had failed to withhold tax on a contract awarded to GSC, among other things. The GFF recently issued a statement admitting that they over sighted to withhold the tax but denied any fraud took place. Football House also said they are victims of witch-hunting by officials in the assembly and the NSC who are using their office to discredit them.
