“We need to propel our economy to spark an industrial revolution in our country. With the next few years, we must add value to all our produce; especially agricultural produce and process here in The Gambia all basic food items that are being increasingly imported.”

The president further maintained: “There will be reform and this will include the drafting of a new Legal Metrology Bill to replace the current Weights and Measures Act of 1977 and to embody a criteria of measuring devices used in health, law enforcement and environmental management. These Bills, according to him will be presented to the National Assembly for consideration.

“I launched Vision 2016 to ensure that all basic food items, especially rice, that are consumed in this country, are locally produced. My government will continue to invest heavily in agriculture infrastructure to include construction of dykes, bridges, causeways, inter-village access roads, mills, juice factories and stores. Investment will also cover machinery acquisition and procurement of inputs such as seeds and agrochemicals.”
