Multiple title winners Real De Banjul on Monday announced it will not leave anything to chances when it comes to its ambition to reclaim the national football league this season.
In their season opener, Real roundly beat defending champions Fortune FC 4-1, humbling last season’s sensational title holders from Farato. This emphatic scoreline on the first day of the league, coming against the champions has already made Real’s intention clear. ”We are prepared and going for a possible win every match from here to run over the teams right through to the title. Well, at least that is our dream and we will work very hard to achieve that,” says Coach Bye Malleh Wadda. The coach, himself a former Real man, took over a crisis- hit team towards the end of last season with Fortune FC already on a fast runaway lane. ”When I took over last season, I was not happy with the fitness of the players then. This year however I have had the opportinuty to do preseason with the team and their fitness is now satisfactory,” Malleh said. Asked if he is not worried about the extended period of the league in view of the additional teams, Malleh said he can trust the fitness state of his boys to see the season on a sound footing.
With the new league now consisting of 16 teams, Real de Banjul will have to get the better of 15 teams including long established rivals, Wallidan, Hawks and GPA in a marathon 30 -match schedule from now against June next year.
Other results in the first week of action in the league are Falcons 3-Steve Biko 0.
