General Meissa Niang, the head of the Senegalese Gendarmerie yesterday arrived on an official visit to The Gambia.
On arrival, the visiting security chief and delegation met with the Gambia’s Chief of Defence Staff General Masanneh Kinteh at his office at the defence Headquarters in Banjul.
After his close- door meeting with CDS Kinteh, Niang told the journalists that he came to inspect the Gendarmerie unit at State House and to reassure President Barrow the promised they gave him back in Dakar on his security and that of the country.
“I will improve the means and conditions of their duties and we also discussed about the challenges relating to the security in our sub region,” the Senegalese Gendarmerie chief told journalists.
For his part, General Masanneh Kinteh, Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces asserted that due to the “geopolitical nature within the region security collaboration is not an option but a must, and this is the message we received from our two heads of State Presidents Adama Barrow and Macky Sall.”
CDS Kinteh commended General Meissa Niang with his delegation and promised to also visit his colleagues in Senegal to cement the cordial relations.
General Niang and delegation will today visit ECOMIG Headquarters in Fajara, the Gendarmerie Detachment and President Barrow.
