Steps of change

During a three weeks visit to the Gambia, Alice McDowell of IDEAS in Australia presented Gamcotrap with a video camera and accessories to support its work in the campaign to end FGM, early marriage and all forms of violence against women and girls.  Alice who first met Dr Touray in Malaysia through the MUSAWAH project developed interest in her work first visited the Gambia in 2013 and witnessed the fourth Dropping of the Knife celebration.  She developed a short documentary on the work led by Dr Isatou Touray, executive director of Gamcotrap.  She had the opportunity to film the monitoring process in which Gamcotrap visited communities in Niamina to update them on the fundraising processes for the fifth Dropping of the Knife ceremony as well as get updates and feedback from them.  Alice is also developing a film on Dr Isatou Touray and her team and the processes involved in bringing about change in the communities before circumcisers and their communities make a public declaration to end FGM.
