The annual youth and sports summer camp is underway in Pakalinding, Lower River Region under the theme: Be the Change, Participate and Promote New Gambia.
Fifty-five (55) young people from across the country are participating and are being exposed to basic skills in football, athletics, handball, wrestling and volleyball.
The camp is organized by National Youth and Sports Councils with funding from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
It is aimed at empowering the campers on issues around national development as well as promote peace through sports and culture.
Speaking at the event, Abdoulie M Kah, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports said the camp also serves to protect and safe-guard the young people especially those from the Greater Banjul Area from unproductive and sometimes dangerous life styles such as swimming in the seas among other hazards.
”In order to minimize the unnecessary accidents we thought that it is very important to look for an avenue where we can bring children that are not part of the Nayconf going age to engage them meaningfully,” he said.
