By Lamin Cham Gambian fans will take 90 minutes of their schedule this afternoon to stand up for Gamtel football club, and to some extent, Armed Forces FC who are representing the country in the prestigious African champions league and confederations cup respectively. Gamtel will seek to go one step beyond what any Gambain team has ever acheived in the competition by reaching the lucrative group stages. But for that to happen they must take out Algeria’s FC Constantine, starting tonight in North Africa ahead of the tie-breaker in Banjul on December 5. They will still have to do the first round of the qualifiers though, but for the Telecom BOYs, this evening’s start to the preliminaries is the focus. “We are taking them at a time. At this moment Gambian players can play anywhere in the world without complex. Our aim is to come out with a respectable result and them go for the kill in Banjul”, a team official told The Standard yesterday. Down the ladder Armed Forces too have since arrived in Abidjan for a titanic tussle with FC Pedro in the Confederation Cup also expected to be played today. A cross fire of emotions then for Gambian fans who follow both matches with equal feelings.]]>
