Scorpions winger Bubacarr ‘Steve’ Trawally ended his one-week stay in The Gambia with a donation to the Sheikh Uthaymeen Orphan centre in Siffoe village on Sunday morning.
The gesture, which is the third in less than two days, saw the Yanbian Funde marksman present the orphanage with bags of rice, sugar, onions, cooking oil and biscuits.
He also presented a cash amount of D15, 000 for the upkeep of the centre before promising to make a return with more items at the end of the Chinese Super League season in November.
“I’m happy I finally visited the orphan centre after being told about it for a while and I’m happy I spent some time with these less-privileged kids to show that I care and willing to support them to aspire and become great in life,” Steve said.
“This is important because I want to contribute to their lives. Life is all about give and take and I really appreciate and thank the management for taking care of the children.”
Trawally also urged the children to work hard to develop their talents if they are to become successful in life before enjoying a thirty-minute training session with them.
Pa Modou Njie, the Admin Officer of the Sheikh Uthaymeen Orphanage, said Steve’s donation to the orphanage is one that he will be rewarded for by the Almighty.
He said after the presentation: “Being an orphan doesn’t mean that their life should end. They should have someone who can support them and we are doing our best to help them. We are happy with your visit and we pray for Allah’s blessing to be always on you.”
Ustass Faisal Jeng, who is a lecturer at the centre, also shared similar sentiments saying: “Charity shouldn’t be under estimated because the Dalasi we give today in this world will be multiplied when we all die and go to the next world.”
“I pray for your career to go forward and pray that Allah bless you, your family and friends.”
Steve completed the donation of his $5000 Most Valuable Player (MVP) award-winning prize with a $500 contribution to a mosque being built in his home village.
The 5ft 11 1/2in attacker left Banjul for China on Monday evening where he is expected to help Yanbian, who are currently second from bottom on the Super League table, in their relegation fight.
