Gambian winger Muhamed Sumareh scored his sixth goal of the season for third-placed Pahang FA who showed fighting spirit to record a 2-0 win over Melaka United in the Malaysian Super League.
Yamil Romero opened the scoring before Fajara-born Sumareh put the icing on the cake with a strike in the 53rd minute.
Sumareh and his Pahang are twelve points behind leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim with five matches left to spare in the league.
Elsewhere, Abdou Jammeh’s strugglers PKNS FC were able to distance themselves from the relegation zone, recording a slim 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Sarawak in Kuching.
Mamadou ‘Futty’ Danso’s Kelantan FA meanwhile lost 1-0 at Selangor while Sanna Nyassi’s bottom-placed Pulau Pinang lost 2-0 to Kedah in the league’s Northern Derby at the State Stadium
