TIJAN DRESSES CABINET WITH TRACKSUITS TO INSPIRE ATTENTION TO SPORTS

Former Gambian international footballer and current Goodwill Sports Ambassador Tijan Jaiteh on Thursday presented high quality tracksuits to member’s of the cabinet including President Barrow at a colourful event at state house.

 Each cabinet member was presented with a Scan Trade labeled tracksuit worth more than $100.

The head of state Adma Barrow also got 8 0riginal full sets of football jersey an 11 balls worth more than D250,000.

At the same event, both the president and the vice president were presented with the famous Norway Cup ball to signal the return of The Gambia to the famous youth tournament.

The Norway Cup is an international youth football tournament held in Oslo, Norway. It has been held annually since 1972, with the exception of 1976 (due to a conflicting arrangement) and 2020 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic). It is the world’s largest football tournament with between 1400 to 1700 participating teams per year.

In 2016, Norway Cup hit an all-time record with 2199 teams, of which 450 teams played the new 3v3 tournament for 6-10 year olds.

Since his appointment as a Goodwill  Sports Ambassador Tijan Jaiteh has contributed immensely to the development of sports in the county.

Last year, Mr Jaiteh through his foundation helped the women national volleyball team to attend a training camp in Dubai.

Earlier, in 2021 he also facilitated the arrival of two Italian volleyball coaches to help develop talents.

Tijan was also at the forefront in arranging the meeting between the VP and some of the national team players.

Speaking to the press after the event, Tijan said: ‘”All that I have is this country, and I will do my best to help this country move to the next level when it comes to sports.

The tracksuits are to motivate the cabinet members to give more attention  to sports  to inspire the whole country to embrace sports.”
