Madi MK Ceesay and Saikou Marong, the UDP elected National Assembly members for Serrekunda West and Latrikunda Sabiji constituencies, respectively, have expressed delight after emerging victorious in last week’s parliamentary election.

Speaking to The Standard on Saturday, Madi MK Ceesay said he feels proud to represent his people in the House, saying “it is more special because it is a mandate given to me by the people of Serrekunda West.
“I am a journalist by profession, the job I do as a journalist is similar to that of a parliamentarian’s role. In the parliament I will be speaking on behalf of my people on both the good and bad. As a parliamentarian, I will immensely contribute in ensuring that good laws are in place.”

Mr. Ceesay also stressed that his win didn’t come to him as a surprise, “but one thing that amazed me the most was the fact that even before 9pm whiles I was still in my bureau, I got the news of my triumph 7 hours ahead of IEC announcement.

“My priority in the National Assembly will be to fight for the reviewing of certain provisions in the constitution. I have the feeling that there are some shortcomings in the constitution especially in the areas of the media where we have many bad laws restricting journalists from properly doing their work as provided in the media ethics.”

He concluded by thanking all his supporters for the trust they vested in him and reassure them of his loyalty.
Meanwhile, Saikou Marong UDP NAM for Latrikunda Sabiji Constituency also told The Standard: “I will only vote for laws that will favor the whole nation and I will also work hand-in-glove with my people who voted me into parliament.”
