The Gambia Under-20 team flew back whome ith the eight-nation trophy to a hero’s welcome last night, ending a long spell of international trophy drought for the country.
The Young Scorpions were the only team unbeaten in the tournament and on Saturday, they beat off a strong resistance from host Liberia to win 2-1 to lift the title.
Yankuba Colley was voted Goalkeepr of the tournament while Abdoulie Sarr, Saikou Touray and Modou Ndow were each acclaimed Man of the Match in the group stages. The team is coached by Mattar Mboge.
Meanwhile, the Young Scorpions have very little rest because they must begin the real business now which is to seek qualification for the African youth championship.
The qualifiers begin for them on May 13 against Benin in Banjul.
