The fact that His Excellency President Adama Barrow has set up the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) and the Truth, Reconciliation. and Reparations Commission (TRRC) and that these two institutions have begun their work in earnest shows that we are on track to reform this country and ensure that never again will we be under the repression of an individual or a group of individuals.
Equally important is the work on the Security Sector Reform which is also ongoing. These institutions are a first step towards not only righting the wrongs of the past regime(s) but putting steps in place to make sure that we set up all necessary democratic institutions which will safeguard our democracy.
It is imperative that the Gambian citizens take ownership of these institutions and participate in their work to make sure that the results are truly representative and that all Gambians will see themselves in them.
The Gambia belongs to all of us; thus, if it is good it is good for us all. Similarly, if it is destroyed we all suffer. It will be prudent therefore for citizens not to act aloof but to engage and ensure that their views, opinions and ideas are included.
We must work together to build a country which we and our children after us can be proud of.
