The West Coast Regional Football Association WCRFA is heading to an elective congress on Sunday with two contenders incumbent Abdou Karim Sey and one Lamin Jarjue nominated as presidential candidates.
Abdou karim, a seasoned and well known administrator has been holding the position since the formation of the FA. Lamin Jarju is a native of Foni Bintang. He is a new man in this stage but he has been known to be a keen sports man in the region. He was born on 17th August, 1984. A lawyer by profession, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB)-and is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of The Gambia with a longstanding experience in sports administration from schools, districts to regional associations.
Some 29 votes are for grab, from the 9 districts, 18 clubs, 1 referee association and 1 Coaches association.
The election is one among many expected in the coming week. Already, the CRRFA has conducted elections with Numukunda Kanyi elected as president. However reports confirmed to The Standard that some stakeholders have written to the Regional Sports Committee in CRR complaining of irregularities in the vote and asking for another vote.
In LRR, the much-awaited elections expected last week could not hold after issues concerning procedures emerged. Reports say the stakeholders want the district sport committees in place first before regional election could take place.
In Banjul Momodou Sowe retained his presidency at elections held last week. There are still elections to be held in URR, KMC and NBR. The regional Football Associations brings a total of 21 votes to the Gambia football Federation GFF elective congress hence the level of interest among football politicians in their elections.
