The newly crowned Wafu Zone A champions Young Scorpions returned to brass tacks yesterday with an impressive inspiring opening to the 2019 African Youth Championship qualifiers. They beat Benin 2 -1 to the delight of the home crowd and will now travel to Cotonou to at least force a score or 0-0 draw which must not be beyond their reach, given the impressive match last night .

Adama Jammeh put the Gambia up in the first half doubled by Ebrima Colley before half time but the Beninoise were not going to surrender the leg without a fight and they pulled one back as they set up an almighty second leg tie-breaker in Cotonou needing only a lone goal without reply.
The home victory was saluted with hope and renewed confidence in Matar Mboge’s boys who by winning the Wafu Cup have injected a new era in Gambian football both on and off the pitch.
