2 arraigned for obtaining money by false pretence

Police prosecutors have filed two charges, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour and obtaining monies by false pretence against Muhammed Sillah and Ebrima Jabbi, both from Sabi village in the URR. The case is being heard by Principal Magistrate Omar Jabang in Basse.

The accused persons are accused of obtaining a total of   D569,300 from 31 people in Sabi village and diverse places promising to give them groundnut with all the complainants not having their money back neither the promised groundnut.

According to the charges, filed by sub-inspector Ebou Ceesay, the accused persons obtained monies from the following people on the pretext of giving them groundnut: Colley Sowe D46,400, Muhammadou Gorri D36,000, Banta Drammeh D43,000,  Ali Sumbundu D24,000, Saidou Jallow D84, 000, Muhammed Trawally D7,400, Baba Sillah D4000, Alieu  Singhateh D5000, Abubacar Trawally D26,000, Modi Jawara D55,000, Haji Sillah DD25,250, Muhammed Conateh D16000, Haji Garew D10,400, Sima  Conateh D4000, Suntu Camara D2400, Buba Camara D15,000, Musa Krubally D12,250, Alasana Suwareh D16,800, Ajafatou Saidy D1600,, Sulayman Sillah D8000, Saikou Sillah D17,100, Yusuf Masako D7,700,  Muhammed Kabba D68,400, Bamba Conteh D21,000, Haji Trawally D7000, Sona Dukureh D4000, Mustapha Conteh D7000, Bangaly Sillah D5000, Sulayman Camara D4000, Bailo Jawara D4,800 and Ebrima Sumbundu D5,400; a total sum of D569,300  while the accused persons know fully that  such is false.

The accused persons were not represented by a lawyer in court but the first accused Muhammed Sillah pleaded not guilty on both counts, while the second accused Ebrima Jabbi pleaded not guilty on count one (conspiracy to commit misdemeanour) but pleaded guilty on count two) obtaining money by false pretence).

The presiding magistrate Jabang granted them bail in the sum of D600,000 with four Gambian sureties each.

The case was adjourned to 1 June.
