Three passengers died, 2 of them instantly when a speeding ‘Gelegele’ reportedly ran into a truck causing the truck to hit another vehicle on Friday at the edge of the Nyambai Forest near Gambia College.
Police sources confirmed yesterday all the dead came from the Gelegele which was loaded with passengers heading to Casamance for Koriteh.
“When the Gelegele ran into the truck while attempting to over take, the truck attempted to avoid the collision and ran into another vehicle the driver of which sustained injuries too,” a police source said.
According to the police, the drivers of both the truck and the Gelegele were picked up for investigation but the truck driver was released on bail while the Gelegele driver remained with the police helping in the investigations. The police also said even though investigations are ongoing everything seems to suggest that the accident was caused by over-speeding and called on drivers to refrain from unnecessary speeding as well as conduct regular maintenance on their vehicles.
