Businessman tells court how armed robbers took his cash, raped his girl friend

One Fang Yi Steven, a Chinese businessman, resident in Paradise Estate at Old Yundum village in West Coast Region, yesterday narrated his encounter with three armed robbers, at the High Court in Banjul, presided over by Justice Ebrima Ba Jaiteh.

Fang YI Steven, who testified as the first prosecution witness, disclosed that on 2 July, 2020 whilst sleeping, three armed robbers broke into his house, armed with cutlasses and knives, robbed him and his colleagues the sum of D280.000.00, one thousand United States dollars, four iPhones, 700 Yuan and raped his girlfriend at knife point.

The witness disclosed that one of the intruders attacked him with a cutlass and hit him and he had blood stain all over his body.

He showed the court the scar on his lower back and pointed out that his colleagues were tied together from their back and his girl friend was raped.

Fang Yi Steven testified that few days after the incident, officers of the Anti-Crime Squad in Bijilo informed him that two of the attackers were arrested, namely Alagie Camara and Sheikh Joof, but the third suspect, Omar Mbow has run away to Casamance in southern Senegal.

Alagie Camara, Sheikh Joof and Omar Mbow are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery with violence.

The case was adjourned to 18 January, 2021.
