The football fraternity was hit by a rocket of sorrow yesterday with the death of former footballer and coach Peter Bonu Johnson.
He died at the EFSTH, a hero and legend who had been ill since Easter Monday.
Bonu played football from a young age, and was among the Saint Augustine’s High School football grooms who have become Gambia’s international stars.
He retired from international football in 1994 when he sustained an eye injury in Congo Brazzaville while playing for the Scorpions in the 1996 Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Bonu then went on to coaching becoming national team coach and under 20.
Bornu was also a good Christian who never forgot God in his daily actives.
He would say at every given opportunity that “we will do the hard work and pray to God for rest”.
At club level, Bonu played for Flamemins FC all his life.
