The Janneh Commission has summoned Julia D Joiner, a former secretary general of Jammeh in connection with the lifting of crude oil agreement between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Government of The Gambia.
The inquiry also urged the witness to bring along and produce at the time and place aforesaid any agreements, contracts, statements, letters, documents or things deemed relevant or helpful to the aforesaid matter.

When Jammeh came to power in 1994, he approached the then Nigerian President, Sani Abacha for the provision of crude oil. Jammeh then gave power of attorney to his then trade minister Dominic Mendy to sign the agreement on behalf of the government for the supply of 200, 000 metric tons. According to him, the agreement he signed was not submitted to the cabinet and was not aware of any revenue generated after the lifting of the crude oil which still remains unknown.
