In the letter, Blatter saluted Mr Bajo on his election victory and conveyed best wishes to the new Gambia Football Federation and the entire Gambian football fraternity on the new dawn in the country’s football. He also assured Mr Bajo of Fifa’s usual support and cooperation in the interest of the game.
Though customary, the message however symbolises the continuation of Fifa’s relations with The Gambia following its decision to remove the past executive and appointing a normalisation committee tasked to conduct the election that brought Bajo into office.
Again, as is traditional, it is expected that the African football body Caf will follow suit in congratulating Mr Bajo. Caf’s position is even more important giving that it has promised at its recent meeting in Ethiopia that the ban on The Gambia will be lifted if good elections were conducted.
