The donation was facilitated by the National Assembly Member for Niani constituency, Demba Sambou.

In June last year, the Kuntaur-based Islamic school was devastated by an inferno that affected all the  rooms except the one housing Quranic memorisation  students.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the principal of the school Mr Muhammed Fatty expressed gratitude and appreciation to Fotga, through BT Sambou. The gesture, according to him, is a clear testimony that Sambou has the development of Niani at heart.

Principal Fatty assured the donors that the donated items would be put into good use while urging the philanthropist and government to come to their aid and fence the school.

“There are 37 student orphans that are in the school reading the Qur’an. They need to be supported. We want to enroll more students but we cannot because of the condition of the room. Come next week we will hopefully start.”

Speaking at the occasion, the Niani law maker Hon. Demba  Sambou, commended the donors for the support, noting that this will help the people of Niani, not the school alone.

“After receiving this information from the Alkalo of Kuntaur, I came to see the impact of the fire. I then went to Banjul and started seeking donation; Friends of The Gambia first came to our aid. Gambia Red Cross also gave second-hand clothings.”

Sambou expressed gratitude to President Yahya Jammeh for his support to education. He therefore called on the parents to send their children to school, particularly the girl child.

For his part, the governor of the region Alhaji Omar Khan, thanked the people of Niani for their contribution towards Vision 2016 and urged them to redouble their effort.

He disclosed that area council tax also needs to be paid on time, noting that if the tax are not paid the council will not be able to do any meaningful development while reminding some big villages who are reluctant to pay their tax.

The Chief of Niani, Alhaji Pierre Bah commended the Niani lawmaker for his positive contribution to the development of Niani, saying this is what representation means. He said anybody who supports Quranic learning centres will be rewarded by God.
