The Gambia will host the 2018 Annual general meeting of the West African international military sport council and the regions military games.
Colonel Isaac Adelakun a senior official of the West Africa Liaison Office for international military games WALO who is currently leading a delegation to Banjul said their visit to Banjul is meant to solicit the support of the Gambia in hosting the WALO AGM alongside the football championship next year.
The WALO assembly, he said is a forum where critical issues, concerning military sport in the sub-region is discussed in a way of promoting unity among the military forces in West Africa.
“We have discussed with the Gambian Chief of defense staff and I am happy to say that, he has giving us the go ahead that the AGM will be successfully hosted in the Gambia,” he said.
He said all the fourteen West African member countries are expected in Banjul next year to partake in the AGM and the football tournament.
He disclosed since their arrival they have meet with the Gambia Football Federation and they also plan to meet the Gambian leader to extend their wishes and as well share their ideas on how best they can together support the successful hosting of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, Masanneh Kinteh said the team is in the Gambia through invitation of the Gambia Armed Forces to pay homage and to exchange ideas ahead of the WALO military football and AGM, which is going to be hosted by his office.
“Their visit will also help them to understand the Gambian situation and as well discuss with us on some other additional issue,” he said.
On whether GAF is prepared to host such a event, Kinteh said the assurances is that the president and the armed forces are committed to make-sure that the event is hosted successfully.
“We know it is not going to be an easy one, but Gambia is known of hosting events successful and this one will not be an exception,” he said.
He said the event will availed participating soldiers from both countries to exchange ideas and as well help them built partnership for more opportunities in the future.
